Mary Nyambura Githiga, the lastborn in her family, came from a complex and challenging background. Her father, who had three wives, was elderly and unwell by the time Mary’s mother, his third wife, passed away. Mary and her sister, Jackline W. Githiga were still very young, and their father’s declining health made it impossible for him to care for them. With heavy hearts, the two girls were placed under the care of Ngong Huruma Children’s Home, while their brother remained at home to look after their father.

Mary began her academic journey at Ngong Huruma Primary School, where she successfully completed her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE). Her hard work and determination paid off, and she earned a place at Kiserian Girls Secondary School, where she continued her education alongside her sister. There, she sat and completed her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

Driven by a passion for learning and a desire to give back, Mary went on to pursue a Diploma in Education at Mount Kenya University. Today, she is a certified teacher, committed to shaping young minds and making a difference in her community.

Mary’s journey is a true testament to resilience, hard work, and the power of opportunity. From a difficult start to becoming a beacon of hope for others, her story reflects the mission of Huruma Children’s Home: transforming lives through love, education, and unwavering support.
