School, Feeding and Accommodation Program

The school was initiated by Mama Zipporah when she saw that her children’s educational needs were not being met by the existing public schools. The children had gone through Trauma in their life and they needed extra support for them to excel academically which was not available in the main educational system.

Therefore in 1993, she built two iron sheet rooms which served as classes. It was a daunting task at the beginning but that iron sheet school birthed a pre-school, a primary and High school that offers quality education to more than 300 children from the orphanage and the community. Also, the school has a computer program that equips the students with technical skills.

The students are currently engaged in community programs like Rotary, Scouts, Presidential Award Scheme and CSR projects to show their gratitude and be valuable members of the community. We provide food and accommodation for our children and the needy students from the community who attend the school.

Clean Water Program

The Borehole project has addressed the past chronic water shortage in Huruma which was straining both physically and financially. This has ensured that the children have access to clean water which minimizes waterborne diseases within our children. The rising number of children has increased the rate of water consumption in the orphanage, therefore there is need to drill another borehole at a cost of $35,000. For $10 you will ensure that a child has access to clean and safe water.

Vocational Training Program

The hair salon, welding and sewing are the current vocational trainings that equip our children with technical skills.

Psychosocial Support Program

This support is offered through professional counselling, Music and extra-curriculum activities that provide healing through interaction and dialogue.

Green Energy Program

The use of green energy within the Home has been a great desire and it was our prayer that it will be fulfilled. We thank God for our dear sister Cynthia from Baybridge, Seattle who went to be with the Lord in 2018, for funding the Solar project. Solar panels are currently installed and the energy harnessed is currently being used within the Home since February 2020. This has greatly reduced the electricity bills which were very high and we able to conserve the environment.

Transition Program

Mama Leigh Ann’s Home is the transition program for our graduating children as they wait to go to college. This program is fully funded by Leigh Mission, Arizona, USA. The program ensures that the children get integrated with the community and learning life skills.
