I am asking for prayers for yet another time in a I am asking for prayers for yet another time in a span of one week we have lost another child of Huruma Children’s Home, by the name Silas Juma, through a road accident on Tuesday 22/03/2022. After we were notified on the accident, we immediately took him to Nairobi West Hospital where he was done a head CT scan and it was found out that he had an extensive head injury, because his skull had a fracture hence contributing to internal bleeding. The hospital referred us to Kenyatta National Hospital because the head trauma was extensive. Doctors at the National Hospital tried to help him but sadly our boy passed on in the doctors’ hands at 3.20 a.m. East African time.
I have got no words to say but to thank God who brought Silas here when he was only 5 days old, and we thank God for the 13 years we had with Silas . Pray for me and the entire Huruma Family for this is such a big blow to all of us as we prepare to put him to rest at his home town, in Mwingi Town.

Update on one of our former child I thought when t Update on one of our former child
I thought when the kids exit Huruma, and are done with their college, I am done with them, but two weeks ago I realized that they still need me as a mother. One evening last week, one of my former child, by the name Josephine Mwongeli, came to Huruma Children’s home late in the night wanting to see me. This is a girl who had left the Home 5 years ago when she was done with her high school. Since she left, I have never heard from her as we usually encourage our young adults to stand on their own and be independent. I did not know she had become sick, and the only person whom she thought could help her is me, her God given mom.
That night she came to see me, she never told me that she was sick; otherwise I could have woken up and helped her. She later went home in so much pain and came to see me again the following morning with this big wound in her left breast with unclean dressing on it. I called our home nurse and asked her to kindly clean the wound as it seemed septic. When our nurse saw the girl, she was shocked and she immediately called me and told me that she was in need of urgent attention by the Sub-District doctor. The doctor, who is a general surgeon, suggested that she be done a Biopsy and a CT scan as soon as possible to determine the course of the wound. All this time Josephine thought that she was suffering from Mastitis, as this was the diagnosis she got from the first doctor she saw in a private hospital.
I want to thank the Huruma Alumni, my former children and students, who came together to quickly raise funds for these initial tests. Sadly, when all the tests were done, it was confirmed that Josephine had Stage 4 breast cancer, and it had widely spread to other vital body organs inclusive of her vertebrae bones. We were immediately referred to Kenyatta National Hospital, where the doctors there advised us to take her to Texas Cancer Center for proper care. The cancer is spreading fast and it has damaged most of her organs. In the hospital she is receiving radiotherapy sessions, where she is supposed to receive 10 sessions to try and slow down the cancer spread. She is also on oxygen supply as her lungs a

Today is my 65th birthday and am sooooo grateful t Today is my 65th birthday and am sooooo grateful to God for another candle on my cake. I thank God for the far I have come and the far He is yet to take me. Back in 2019, I didn’t think I would be here celebrating 65 years as it was one of my darkest moments. But God has been so faithful towards me by supplying me with His love, kindness and surrounding me with his hedge of protection. I take this humble opportunity to thank everyone who has been so supportive to me and my children. May God bless you and your families and always know that I love you.
December 2021 is a month that saw all our kids in December 2021 is a month that saw all our kids in school, which was awesome because we have never been all together in such a month. All our kids and team members were in session until 22nd December 2021. It has been an enjoyable month that proved to be so unique in so many ways. We made beautiful memories together as a Home and School which will forever remain in our hearts. It is a month that saw many visitors come to see and spend time with us which was truly a blessing to our children.

Students from Ongata Senior Secondary School visited our Home where they got to interact with our learners and together they engaged in various activities such as cooking, cleaning, playing as well as having interactive discussions together. These students gave our children a wonderful Christmas treat where they prepared all of us a delicious meal which we shared together. In addition, they also donated a lot of foodstuff and sundry to the Home. Thank you so much Ongata Senior Secondary School for your generosity during this festive season. We don’t take it for granted the visit you accorded our Home.

On 11th of December 2021 the class of 2015, together with some of their friends, visited the Home which was such a beautiful surprise. These are former children of the Home who were all in the same high school class in year 2015. I was amazed to see my children all grown and independent to plan such a wonderful visit. The children were very excited to see their older brothers and sisters and truly you could sense the love that day here in Huruma. One, William Muchiru and Damaris Gathoni put all these together where they cooked a delicious dinner for the kids as well as held very helpful and encouraging mentorship sessions with all the kids. I could not hold back my joy as I prayed and blessed each one of them as the last time I had seen them was when I was sick. May God bless these young adults for giving back to the Home……their home.

On 12th of December 2021 we had yet another group of visitors from the Matatu Association. This is a group that does operate public transport on different routes here in Nairobi. The group visited the Home with their colorful buses which left all

BACK TO SCHOOL The pandemic has really brought ab BACK TO SCHOOL

The pandemic has really brought about many changes one of them being a new school calendar where our school terms have really changed as well as shortened. The first school term in year 2021 came to a close on 30th of September 2021 and school resumed back again on 11th October 2021 for the second school term in year 2021. The first school term was quite busy with all our kids graduating to new grades thus getting to learn new exciting things. The term was quite short as it entailed 9 weeks of learning where normally it should run for 14 weeks. The teachers were very commited and they really sacrifised their time to ensure that no time was wasted while here in school. Both mothers and the support staff worked hand in hand with the teachers to ensure that the children received all the support they needed while in school. Assessment tests were done regularly to monitor the progress of our children in order to know where they are academically. The teamwork shown by the learners was amazing and seeing them work in groups was very encouraging. We are currently in our second school term and we wish all our teachers and learners success as they strive to be the best they can be in academics.

COMPETITION SPIRIT

Here in Ngong Huruma Schools we have four houses, that is, Red, Blue, Yellow and Green who compete every school term in various areas both here in school as well as at home. Our children are placed in various houses and each house has a number of patrons from different departments that guide the learners in various aspects that are being competed in. The theme of the first school term was "On Your Marks", which was aimed at preparing the learners for the new things they are going to learn in their new grades here in school. The theme of the current second school term is "Get Set", where the learners are being encouraged to be more enthusiastic in their academics to achieve better grades in their education. Apart from academics we are also looking at the the general discipline of a child as well as a child's engagement in sport activities. These are school terms that have seen learners engage in different sport activities where the Primary Scho
