Introduction
Greetings to you all in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I trust that you are doing well and that you continue to be kept by His grace, holding firmly to your faith. I give thanks to God for His constant protection over me and the entire Huruma Children’s Home family.
By God’s help, Huruma Children’s Home has weathered many storms, and though challenges have come our way, I choose not to complain, but rather to count my blessings one by one. Truly, He has been a faithful God, guiding and sustaining us throughout.
Much has taken place since we last connected, but in all things, we give thanks to the Lord. What follows is just a glimpse of what has been happening at Huruma Children’s Home.
School progress
We thank God for a successful Term Two. We are proud of the hard work and commitment shown by each student. Their dedication to their studies has been evident, and we are encouraged by the academic progress being made across the board.
Our teachers and support staff have worked diligently to ensure every child receives the attention and help they need to thrive. Regular assessments have shown steady improvement in most classes. In addition to academic growth, we’ve also witnessed positive development in discipline and character among our students.
Extracurricular activities have resumed, providing a balanced experience of both learning and recreation. This has been greatly supported by our school houses, which promote healthy competition in both academics and co-curricular activities. The CBC (Competency-Based Curriculum) approach continues to highlight each student’s capabilities and talents, focusing on what learners can do beyond the classroom.
We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to Madam Sarah Muthoni, who has served as the school principal for the past two terms. As she had earlier indicated, her tenure has come to an end, and she is moving on to explore new opportunities. We are truly grateful for the positive changes she brought to the school, and for creating a smooth and conducive environment for her successor.
We now welcome Mr. Paul Mureithi as the new head of the school. Having served as the deputy principal for a long time, Mr. Mureithi is well-acquainted with the school’s operations and needs. We are confident that he will lead with excellence, build on the foundation laid, and continue to drive performance and discipline within the school.
Finally, we thank God for the good health and protection of our students and staff throughout the term.
Madam Violet Omukenyas’ Demise
Many of you will remember Madam Omukenya, who faithfully led our primary section for many years. It is with heavy hearts that we share the sad news of her passing late last term. Her departure was a great loss not only to Huruma Children’s Home but also to the many lives she touched during her time with us.
Madam Omukenya joined Huruma Children’s Home 14 years ago, and over that time, she became more than just a staff member—she became family. Her dedication to the children, her tireless work in the classroom, and her motherly guidance shaped many young lives. She was known for her calm spirit, firm leadership, and genuine care for each child she encountered.
Her passing has left a deep gap in our hearts and in our institution, one that will not easily be filled. Yet, we remain hopeful and prayerful that God, in His time and way, will comfort us and bring the right person to continue the important work she so lovingly carried out.
Madam Omukenya was laid to rest in her hometown of Kakamega, where family and friends gathered to celebrate her life and bid her a heartfelt farewell. Though she is no longer with us in person, her legacy will continue to live on in the lives she shaped and the community she helped build.
More Success stories
We thank God as we celebrate two incredible success stories from our beloved alumni, John Kisoso and Mary Nyambura, who have reached major milestones in their academic journeys. These achievements are not only a reflection of their hard work and perseverance, but also a powerful reminder of the incredible impact we can have when we walk together in love, faith, and purpose.
John Kisoso graduated from Mt. Kenya University with a Degree in Education. His story is one of true transformation. He came to Huruma Children’s Home as a very young and sick boy many doubted he would survive, let alone thrive. But by God’s grace, and with the care and support of the Huruma family, Kisoso has not only overcome those early challenges but has flourished into a responsible, educated, and compassionate young man. Today, he serves as a valued staff member at Huruma, giving back to the very home that raised him. He is now helping to guide the next generation, just as he was guided.
Mary Nyambura, who joined Huruma in 2001 alongside her sister Jackline Githiga after the loss of their parents, has also made us immensely proud. Mary has earned a Diploma in Early Childhood Development, a true reflection of her heart for young learners. She faithfully served as the Head of our CBC School before pursuing new opportunities elsewhere. Watching her rise to greater heights has been deeply fulfilling a testimony that dreams do come true.
These stories are personal victories, yes, but they are also victories for all of us. As someone who has walked with these children, prayed for them, and nurtured them, this is one of my greatest joys: seeing them grow into strong, educated, and impactful adults.
I am deeply thankful to God for making this possible. I am equally grateful to every individual who has stood with us through prayer, financial support, mentorship, or any form of encouragement. You are part of this story. You are part of this success.
Gatune Progress
I am deeply thankful to God for the remarkable progress we are experiencing at Gatune Farm. What once began as a simple dream to cultivate our land and provide for our home has grown into a living testimony of what vision, partnership, and faith can achieve.
Today, I am proud to share a major milestone in our journey: we now have a fully installed solar energy system powering our farm. Thanks to the generous support of Davis & Shirtliff and our friends Vern and Anita Brewer, we’ve been able to install solar panels that now power a water pump directly connected to our borehole in Gatune.
This development is a game-changer.
In recent months, our region has been grappling with a significant challenge. The electrical transformer that once supplied power to Gatune and its surroundings was stolen, leaving the community without electricity. This meant no water pumping, limited irrigation, and increased hardship for both families and farmers in the area.
But now Gatune Farm stands as a beacon of resilience and innovation. With solar energy, we are no longer dependent on the national grid. We can now pump water consistently, regardless of outages or infrastructure setbacks. This water will be used not only for irrigation, helping us grow more crops throughout the year, but also for household use and most importantly for sharing with the community.
We envision Gatune Farm becoming a model of sustainability, demonstrating how clean energy and local farming can work hand in hand to address food insecurity and climate challenges. As water becomes more accessible, we plan to expand our cultivated land, diversify our crops, and adopt more climate-smart farming practices that can withstand the unpredictable weather patterns we are seeing in recent years.
To our partners, donors, and fellow visionaries: thank you for believing in us. Your investment is already bearing fruit, literally and figuratively, and the impact will ripple far beyond our borders.
Together, we are proving that even in the face of adversity, hope is never lost, and with the right tools, we can build a better future from the ground up.
Gratitudes
From the depths of our hearts, we extend our sincerest gratitude to each and every one of you who has stood with us on this extraordinary journey. What we are part of is more than just a mission, it’s a divine calling, and we believe wholeheartedly that God is using you in powerful and beautiful ways to help turn the dreams of every child we serve into reality.
Your unwavering support, through your time, your resources, and your generous financial contributions, has not gone unnoticed. Every moment you’ve shared, every gift you’ve given, and every prayer you’ve lifted has helped build hope, joy, and a brighter future.
We see your sacrifices.
We feel your love.
And we are so incredibly thankful.
You are not just donors or volunteers, you are changemakers, vision-carriers, and vessels of love and purpose. Because of you, children who once felt forgotten are now seen, heard, and believed in.
As we continue forward, know that we carry you in our prayers daily. May you be blessed abundantly for the light you bring into others’ lives.
