I want to take this opportunity to greet you all in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I hope that you and your families are doing well.
The Huruma family is doing well and all our children are safe and healthy. We thank God for the protection and the care he has over us. Indeed, He has been a good father and the rock that we cling to. God has supplied all our needs according to His riches in Glory, and for this, we are grateful.
We have had a wonderful year so far and God has truly seen us through this far. I hope that you and your families are all safe and doing well. We love you and we are always praying for you all.
SCHOOL PROGRESS
The first and second term were a success. I want to thank God for the safety and care He has given over us as per this far. I want to thank my team of staffs for the good work they are doing in running both our schools. Our learners from Playgroup to grade twelve are all doing great and they have had a wonderful time in school. Our teachers and facilitators have worked tirelessly to ensure that the school runs smoothly by ensuring that apart from education, the learners are well monitored and disciplined, as well as equipped with extra curriculum skills. This year we have a had several counseling interns who have really played a vital role in shaping the lives of our learners through one on one counseling sessions as well as group sessions. This has helped our learners to view the world in a different dimension both education wise and real life. Occasional visits from our former students and their interaction with our kids plays a role in encouraging our learners to work SMART and put more effort in their education on their quest towards success.
OUR CANDIDATE CLASSES
This year, we are having two candidate classes that will be sitting for their national examinations at the end of this year unlike the previous years where we have had three candidate classes. The grade six learners will be sitting for their national assessments in November 2024, which will transition them to Junior School. The facilitators are continuing to prepare the learners as well as equipping them with enough skills in readiness of their assessments.
We also have 32 candidates in grade 12 class who will be sitting for their national examinations in November 2024. As a mother am proud to see my children finishing their high school level this year as most of them came to Huruma when they were babies. In this class, 17 are my children whom I have seen grow and become young adults and as a mother, am so proud to see them progressing well in their education. This is the class that will be joining transition in 2025 where they will be exited from the Home and start residing in our Transition Home. My heart is filled with joy seeing the fruits of my labor.
I want to thank every person who played a significant role to help me in bring up these children and in impacting them with knowledge, skills and the word of God. This gives me confidence that those who considered my teachings and advice positively, will surely be of great benefit to the society. I am truly a proud mother.
MORE SUCCESS STORIES
One of my greatest joy as a mother is to see my children excelling in their academic journey. This makes me feel so good. This year we have produced three graduates in different learning categories. This is just but a glimpse of what God has for us before the end of this year.
Andrew Kamau Mwaura graduated with a Bachelors degree of Science with education in Mathematics and Physics. I am so happy to see him graduate and become a certified teacher especially in one of the very competitive education field here in Kenya.
Miracle Njeri Njoki came to the Home at a very young age of 6 months. She was HIV positive and no one would think she will survive to this far. God is great because after taking the medication for long she was healed and she is now HIV negative. Together with her three siblings, I took care of them until the age where they exited the Home. After finishing high school, Miracle went to college and undertook a certificate course in Bible and Christian ministries. She is currently serving at Huruma Chapel ministry.
Robert Nginga Njoki is a brother to Miracle Njeri Njoki. He is among the 4 siblings who came to the Home at very tender age o f 6 years. Robert went through primary and secondary school at Ngong Huruma Schools before joining Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology where he started his diploma in Information Technology. He finished his diploma course and enrolled in Bachelors Degree of the same course. He recently graduated which was such a joy to me as a mother.
Thomas Mutuku is another pride of our Home and School. He undertook a diploma in Fashion and Design which is his passion. He came to the Home as a beneficiary in our high school and he played a great role in making our school surroundings beautiful as landscaping was also his passion. We recently celebrated his graduation which was a fun moment to experience.
Finally, one of my babies by the name Godfrey Huruma who came to the Home when he was only 1 year old has finally joined Karatina University. After the post election violence in 2007, a man who we believe was his father walked with him to the police station and left him there never to return again.
Again, I am a proud mother! This is the fruits of my labor that I take pride in it. I wouldn’t have done this alone and I thank you all for being our support system. Above all, I thank God for giving me the strength and the wisdom needed in taking care of all my children.
HEALTH UPDATES
I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your prayers and support since I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2019. I have been fairing on well since I underwent a bone marrow transplant in the same year in India. I was put on a cancer medication regime for sometime before my body rejected the medication. The cancer also went into remission then and has been that way for the last 4 and a half years. I am very keen in attending my monthly clinics with my Oncologist and a few months ago a blood tests indicated that the cancer cells were raising again as my blood proteins were mis-behaving again. The doctor put me on a 6 months cancer medication regime which I started in June 2024. I have been in medication since then which has not being easy but I thank God and my children for giving me the strength to push on. God always has a way of surprising me because in August 2024 a blood test I undertook showed that the medication I was taking was working really well and the cancer cells were going down again. Before the medication, the cells were at 1.37% and in August they were at 0.30%. Also the blood proteins which were misbehaving had dropped from 115 to 24. Am so happy to the Lord for this positive progress so far.
All am asking from you is that you keep on praying with me as I continue with this medical journey for strength and staying positive all the way. God is truly amazing and my Jehovah Rapha….My Healer.
GRATITUDE
I want to take this opportunity to thank every person who has partnered with us so far. Your partnership is highly valued and it’s not for granted. You are truly a blessing to me and my children.
I want to recognize a team from Miss Universe Kenya that recently came over to our Home to have a goo d time with our children. The team was accompanied by officers from the Children Department headquarters. They cooked a delicious meal for everyone and they also donated foodstuff and clothing to the Home. The children had a great time that day and the smiles on their faces was just amazing. To this team of beautiful ladies and gentlemen, may God bless you for making wonderful memories with our children.
The list is endless, and I wish I can give a shout out to all of you. But all I want you to know is that I love you so much and I pray for you everyday. We as Huruma Family love you and we are truly grateful to have you as our friends and partners
